The blood in your body will circulate, for the most part anyway, no matter what you are doing.  That is its job and unless it gets too thick, it will move as it should.  However, there are a few things that you can do to keep your blood circulating well so that you do not have other issues on top of your recovery.

Here are 4 ways to naturally improve your blood circulation:

1. Get a Massage

Massages are perfect for relaxing your body and your muscles, but did you also know that they are one of the best ways to improve your blood circulation?  It’s true!  A massage will get your blood moving the way that it should, especially if you add some essential oils like cypress, rosemary, peppermint, and ginger to the treatment.  Plus, every massage will help release toxins from your body, which will allow you to heal.

2. Add Certain Spices and Herbs to Your Diet

Spices and herbs can do much more than making your food taste so much better!  Did you know that cayenne pepper can regulate the flow of your blood while improving your circulation?  Imagine how tasty your potato salad, chicken, and even fish will be when you add a few dashes of this spice!

Ginger root is another spice that works wonders, because it acts as an anti-inflammatory, while also relaxing blood vessels, getting blood to flow better, and relieving pain.  This magic spice should be in at least one or two things that you eat and drink every day, so you can feel amazing even when you are not injured!

Parsley is the third wonder spice, and while it makes the tops of food look all nice and pretty when served, it is even better when you add it to your smoothies.  This spice does have a strong taste, so start small and keep adding more as you can tolerate it.  You’ll be amazed at what this little green leaf can do when it comes to your circulation and removing toxins from your body.

3. Drink Lots of Water

Staying hydrated is one of the easiest things that you can do to improve your circulation, especially after a massage.  You may find yourself wanting to limit this, and every other beverage in the world, so you do not need to use the bathroom every half hour.  However, I guarantee that you will feel much better if you can down a glass every hour because your blood will not have time to even think about getting thicker.  The good news is that you will feel perky and upbeat too, because you will have much more oxygen getting to your brain from all that flowing blood!

4. Eat Foods that are Healthy

I totally get it that you want to bite down into a juicy hamburger and those French fries that are piled high next to it, however, those foods are going to make you feel sluggish and make it more difficult for your body to recover.  While you can absolutely indulge once every couple of weeks, I recommend that you try to stick to a plant-based diet as much as possible.  Fruits, vegetables, and unprocessed carbs will be your new best friends when you are improving your circulation and recovering.

I am not going to lie, it is going to take time to improve your blood circulation, even if you do all four of the things that I mentioned above.  However, by doing each one regularly, you will see a steady improvement over time.  And trust me when I say that you will notice the difference when you grab that soda or ice cream sundae every once in a while.  A little trick that I have found that works wonders are adding another couple of glasses of water on the days that I indulge in a few of the unhealthier options!
