Have you been trying to get out of the rut and finally finish recovering from that injury you had last week, last month, last year? Have you been hearing advice from everyone and anyone, but keep thinking that no one understands the pain that you are in?
I get it, I really do! I know that it seems like injuries are supposed to be easy to heal from, but in reality, it is harder than anyone expects.
When I injured my ankle by simply twisting it going down a very low step, I didn’t think anything of it! I basically went about my day as best as I could, while thinking that it would be fine the next day. Fast forward a few days to where I was at urgent care getting x-rays and crutches, and then a year later when I was having surgery to finally fix the problem.
Oh, and then I had to deal with physical therapy for months after that!
While I was there, I heard people saying that they kept doing more than they should, because they knew that it would help them improve faster. However, that didn’t happen, and in fact, those people were in PT a lot longer than I was!
What, you’re shocked about that??! Hey, our bodies have been breaking and healing for centuries now and nothing is ever going to change that! While you may not have planned your injury, it is your body’s way of telling you that you needed to make a change. You chose not to listen at first, so your body took matters into its own hands and did something that you could not ignore!
So, what are you going to do about it now?
If I were you, I would take a hard look at what you have been doing in recent weeks, months, or even years! Have you been neglecting yourself, your family, working in a job that you despise, or one of the many other things that could happen?
It is going to be tough to ask yourself some of those hard questions, and you can avoid it if you want. I won’t think any differently of you if you want to go back to the way things were after you are back to normal. In fact, I’ll understand completely!
However, what if this injury can completely change your life? What if I am right and you have been given a fabulous opportunity to live your life in a new way, where you will be happier than you have ever been before?
When I hurt my ankle, I did everything that I could at first to keep moving forward, until I physically couldn’t put one foot in front of another. And you know what? If I could have that injury or another one, I would go through it all again!
You may be thinking that I am nuts, but all that downtime that I had sitting around, really gave me time to contemplate my life. It wasn’t easy to dredge up the past or turn a couple of my dreams into reality, but I did it. And guess what? It was worth all the pain, heartache, and feeling of dread because I am now living the life that I have dreamed of!
Could it be better still? Absolutely! And while I would gladly embrace another injury to continue on this journey, I am a little wiser now. That means that I can use my newfound knowledge to keep forgiving myself, working on myself, and finding happiness.
If you want to do the same, I would love to help you out! I am here when you are ready. No judging and no worries. Only progress to what will eventually be the happiest days of your life.
